About This Piece
The Art
Relief on a column at the Temple of Isis, Philae, Egypt. A relief from the hypostyle hall of the temple showing the Greek/Egyptian Pharaoh Ptolemy III Euergetes sacrificing to Egyptian deities. The construction of the temple dedicated to the Ancient Egyptian goddess Isis on the island of Philae started during the reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus in the 3rd century BC and was completed by his successor Ptolemy III Euergetes. It was the last remaining outpost of the Ancient Egyptian religion when the Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian closed it down in c550. After damage caused by flooding after the construction of the Aswan Dam, the temple complex was moved, piece by piece, to the nearby island of Agilkai in 1977-1980.

This photographic print leverages sophisticated digital technology to capture a level of detail that is absolutely stunning. The colors are vivid and pure. The high-quality archival paper, a favorite choice among professional photographers, has a refined luster quality.
