This statue is one of five women at this location, known as the Famous Five or Valiant Five, celebrating a key moment in the history of womens rights in Canada. This one shows McClung displaying the 1929 newspaper with the headline declaring the successful appeal of the Persons legal case that had been launched by the Famous Five. The judicial review overturned an earlier verdict that had stated that women were not eligible for appointment to the Canadian Senate. The inscription is bilingual, in English and French.
