A woodblock print or ukiyo-e published in the late Edo period between 1829 and 1833, "The Great Wave at Kanagawa" by Hokusai is the artist's most famous work. In fact, "The Great Wave at Kanagawa" is widely considered the most recognized Japanese artwork in the world. It was the first print in artist Katsushika Hokusai's iconic series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji," which he created at the height of his art career when the artist was in his 70s. It was published by Nishimura Yohachi. The image shows an impressive wave threatening boats off the coast in the Sagami Bay and features Mount Fuji in the background.
