"Blue Nude" by Matisse is a series of four color lithographs the artist created near the end of his life. Matisse was convalescing after stomach cancer surgery when he began the "Blue Nude" series. He cut and painted sheets of paper and then supervised the creation of the lithographs until his death in 1954. Early in his career, Matisse began to use solid slabs of a single color, a technique known as Fauvism. The blue painted gouache cut-outs that the "Blue Nude" series of paintings is based on are from Matisse's personal collection of African sculptures and a visit to Tahiti years earlier. Add one or all four pieces in the "Blue Nude" series into your home art collection by choosing premium edition prints. While not signed or numbered like a limited edition, premium edition prints often appreciate in value due to their rarity and age. Art prints and giclee prints on acid-free paper also offer rich detail and depth of color.
