After completing studies at Parsons School of Design and the Gerrit Rietveld Acadamie in Amsterdam, Trystan Bates started his professional career in the arts as a sales associate for Salvador Dalí watercolors and prints for private collectors in New York. Following this he moved on to Felissimo Design House where he took on the role of Creative Coordinator, researching and contacting esteemed international contemporary designers and curating large-scale exhibitions. During this time, Bates worked continuously as a freelance illustrator and fine artist. After many years spent in New York and exhibiting internationally, he relocated his studio to Buenos Aires where he exhibited within Latin America, Europe, and the US. Close proximity to a vibrant, young art scene and local culture prompted Trystan to gather a small group of contemporary and street artists to start an urban/new contemporary art collective under the name HONEYCOMB. Since 2009, the group has grown immensely and Trystan has had the privilege of working with over 100 young visionaries in the formation of a diverse, international creative network. In addition to his personal work, Trystan has directed and participated in numerous crossover projects, exhibitions, and endeavors rooted in the promotion of positive artistic expression, the development of young artists, environmental conservation, and cross-cultural exchange. In 2012 Trystan opened HONEYCOMB SHOWROOM BSAS: a non-traditional exhibition space in Buenos Aires that to date has presented nine celebrated solo exhibitions of widely-recognized Latin American contemporary and street artists. Trystan works and lives in Buenos Aires and continues to exhibit within the US, Latin America, and Europe.
