Many of Zeldas city scenes of New York and Paris were painted from memory and are romantic evocations of her happiest times with her husband, F Scott Fitzgerald. In this gouache, Zelda commemorates her daughter, Scotties, wedding in 1943 to Ensign Jack Lanahan. Zelda paints Jack in uniform. Scottie is the bride in the foeground. The babies behind her are symbols of their future children. In this cityscape series Zelda creates riotous worlds, sometimes unstable but full of drama and pageantry. Her compositions are reminiscent of stage sets upon which dancers float above the earth. Original size: 13 58" x 18 14"
